International Curator Talk with Leah Triplett, October 22 at 5pm

Join us as we hear from curator Leah Triplett, who joins us at FSAS as our next visiting curator in 2025 as part of the FSAS International Curator Residency programme.

Consider the Potted Plant: Leah will discuss trends in place-based projects, from residencies and biennials to site-specific public projects and city-based curatorial initiatives. Inspired by some of art historian Grant Kester’s commentary on socially-engaged aesthetics, this talk will trace a history of the place-based in contemporary practices from the 1990s until today, with examples of previous projects as well as research to be developed during this residency.

Leah Triplett is a curator and writer. She is currently Curator of Contemporary Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), where she recently organized William Villalongo: Myths & Migrations and curated New Horizons: Recent Contemporary Acquisitions and Artists as Cultivators. Her writing has appeared in ArtAsiaPacific, ArtNet News, Sculpture, Public Art Dialogue, Flash Art, Hyperallergic, The Brooklyn Rail, and others. She taught critical writing in the painting and sculpture MFA programs at Boston University from 2021 to 2023. She is the 2024 Mary Ann Unger Estate Fellow, researching the artist’s work in the 1970s and 1980s.
