DESCRIPTION:Born to be alive.\n\n\nA BRIEF\n\nA4 Sounds invites artists to
propose work for our upcoming exhibition Born to be\nalive. as part of our
We Only Want the Earth programme.\n\nOver the course of 6 weeks\, the exh
ibition will be formed\, built\, born from the\nworks submitted\, beginnin
g with six building blocks from our research.\n\nWe invite submissions of
completed works that respond to our brief which is a\nvisual representatio
n of some threads from our ongoing research. The exhibition\nis a continua
tion of our previous group show The Cosmos\, The Earth\, and Us. Born\nto
be alive. acts as a mechanism for an ongoing iterative conversation betwee
n\nA4 Sounds\, artists\, and audiences about the goals and strategies of s
ocial\nchange: what kind of society do we want and how should we get there
?\n\n___\n\n\nTHE CONTEXT\n\nThe context for We Only Want the Earth is ong
oing\, unpredictable social change.\nThe perceived legitimacy of internati
onal institutions and international law is\ncollapsing. Climate change is
accelerating\, and the border regimes of the\ncountries that have benefitt
ed the most from its causes are increasingly\nviolent\, preventing escape
for those suffering the worst of its effects. Ireland\nparticipates as a j
unior partner in and beneficiary of Western imperialism\, at\nthe cost of
much of its sovereignty\; popular legislation aligned with\ninternational
law cannot be enacted due to a fear of the US response\, while\nIrish neut
rality is ever closer to being dismantled despite broad public\nopposition
	. Domestically\, the crises of inequality\, cost of living\, and\nhomeless
ness continue to worsen. \n\nWe are living through Gramsci’s interregnum:
the old world is dying and the new\nworld struggles to be born. New opport
unities for radical social change present\nthemselves\, but they are accom
panied by reactionary violence that seeks to\nreturn to an imagined idylli
c past. In this context\, deliberative and discursive\narts practices are
urgently needed.\n\nFull information can be found on our website.\n[https:
