DESCRIPTION:Chronic Connections: Open Call for Artists\n\nFire Station Arti
sts’ Studios is collaborating with Chronic Collective for the\nfourth year
of Chronic Connections: Networking for sick and disabled artists\n\nDisab
led and chronically ill artists often cannot network in the same way as\nt
heir peers\; this programme tries to bridge the gap and invites curators a
nd\nprogrammers to have a conversation with disabled and chronically ill a
rtists\nabout their work.\n\nThis programme involves two events\, the firs
t is a ‘speed curating’ networking\nevent (artists will have 15 minutes wi
th each of our curators to introduce\nthemselves and their practice) and t
he second event will be a one-to-one studio\nvisit or meeting with a selec
ted curator.\n\nAfter the initial networking event\, the artists will shar
e feedback on the\nnetworking event and will be matched with the most suit
able curator for their\nneeds. The artists will then be able to avail of o
ne scheduled studio\nvisit/meeting as part of this programme\, with the cu
rator they are matched with.\n\nThroughout the programme\, Chronic Collect
ive and FSAS will be checking in and\navailable for support and advice.\n\
nThis programme aims to build capacity for sick and disabled artists to en
able\ndialogue and networking opportunities with curators invested in incl
usive\npractices.\n\nChronic Collective and FSAS have gathered a panel of
international and national\nrecognised curators who have a close interest
and practice in inclusion and\naccess to participate in Chronic Connection
s Network Programme with up to 7\nvisual artists with disabilities/chronic

is\n\nWhat is speed curating?\n\nYou will meet with each of the four curat
ors for 15 mins each. It is a\nfast-paced but relaxed environment. Don’t w
orry we will have lots of breaks! You\ncan share examples of your work fro
m your online portfolio\, website\, Instagram\,\nor printed files. You can
also simply chat about your practice. We will have a\nspare laptop and iP
ad available. We can also print files/images prior to the\nevent. To make
the best use of your time\, please have the files or web pages\nready so y
ou can share during your meeting.\n\nThe speed curating meetings are usual
ly an initial introduction between the\nartist and curator but also can be
useful to reconnect with someone if you have\nmade new work. The curator
will also introduce themselves and what they do. A\nmeeting like this can
be a way to build a more long-term relationship with the\ncurator. It can
sometimes take several years between an initial meeting and an\nexhibition
opportunity.\n\nWhat is a studio visit?\n\nThe purpose of the studio visi
t/meeting is for artists and curators to have a\nconversation about the ar
tist’s work and discuss areas of the artist’s practice.\nThis first conver
sation could lead to building a relationship over time.\n\nStudio visits a
re meetings between artists and curators that are focused on the\nartist’s
practice\, their work and interests.\n\nIn the studio visit the conversat
ion may address themes of the artist’s work\,\nworks in progress\, ideas a
round potential exhibition opportunities\, audiences\nfor future work\, in
troducing references by other artists\, professional\ndevelopment opportun
ities and critical responses.\n\nThis can happen at the artist’s studio\,
online or in a meeting room. In advance\nthe curator will research the art
ist and the artist will choose what artworks\nthey’d like to show the cura
tor and be prepared to discuss their work more in\ndetail. All of this pre
paration is a starting point for a conversation.\n\nWhat to expect from Ch
ronic Connections?\n\nEach of the successful artists will participate in a
speed curating event with\nthe four curators of the panel on 24 September
2026\, 1-5pm\, and a studio\nvisit/meeting with one of the curators on ou
r panel in the following\nweeks/months. Successful artists will receive a
fee of €200. Curators will also\nreceive a fee. After the programme is com
	plete\, each artist and curator will\nsubmit a one-page report /3min video
or audio file on their experience of the\nnetworking programme.\n\nWho ca
